For Riders ยท Bring Your Driver

You Already Have a Favorite Cab Driver.

There's a cab driver you call every time. You know their name. They know your address. Now you can pin them as your personal driver on Giv'er โ€” every job you post goes to them first, before anyone else sees it. The closest thing to having a private driver on call.

๐Ÿ“Œ
Here's the real upgrade: the Pin.

Once the driver you referred is verified, you can pin them as your personal driver. From then on, every ride or errand you post goes to them first โ€” a private look before any other driver sees it. No bidding war, no competition for your trip.

A note on expectations: pinning gives your driver the first look, not an obligation to take it. Drivers can pass on any job โ€” they might be on another ride, off-shift, or out of town. If they pass or don't respond in a few minutes, the job opens up to other drivers the same way an unpinned post would.

Why this is worth doing โ€” for both of you

For You ยท The Rider

You get your driver, every time

  • Pin them as your personal driver. Your jobs go to them first.
  • Message them directly through the app. No dispatch in the middle.
  • Always know they're nearby. Their availability shows in your app.
  • Predictable trips. Same driver, same routes, same conversation, same trust.
For Them ยท The Driver

They keep every dollar

  • Zero commission. Ever. Whatever the rider pays goes straight to them.
  • Their best customers come with them โ€” you, and anyone else who pins them.
  • Class 4 licence is all they need. No new training, no extra hoops.
  • Works alongside their current cab job โ€” fills the gaps between dispatch calls. Pure additive income.

How to invite them โ€” three minutes, no script needed

  1. Mention it on your next ride. "Hey, I started using this app called Giv'er โ€” you should be on it. Want me to send you the link?" That's the whole pitch. They'll ask the rest.
  2. Text or message them this link. Pre-written templates below โ€” tap to copy and send.
  3. You'll know when they're verified. Once your driver is approved (usually within a business day), open Giv'er, find their profile in the drivers list, and tap "Pin as my driver." They'll see every job you post first โ€” before any other driver โ€” for the full ten-minute window or until they pass.

"Why would my driver want to do this?"

Because the math is good for them. The two things cab drivers complain about most are commission cuts (their company takes a percentage) and dead time between dispatch calls. Giv'er fixes both. Every fare is theirs to keep, and the gaps in their day fill in with jobs from regulars like you. They don't quit their cab job โ€” they just add a second channel that pays better.

"Is there a cash bonus for me?"

No โ€” and that's on purpose. We don't pay riders to recruit drivers, and we don't pay drivers a sign-up bonus. The reason is simple: a one-time bonus runs out. The benefits here don't.

That's a structural benefit that compounds, not a one-time payout. The cab driver you trust is on speed dial, every ride going forward โ€” that's the value.

Frequently asked

Is there a cash bonus for getting my driver to sign up?
No. There's no cash referral bonus in either direction. The benefit is structural: you get to pin your driver as your personal driver and they keep 100% of every fare. Both of those are worth more than a one-time bonus.
What does it mean to "pin" a driver?
Pinning means every ride or errand you post is sent to that specific driver first โ€” for about ten minutes, before any other driver sees it. If they're available, they take it. If they pass or don't respond, the job opens up to all drivers as normal. It's the closest thing to having a personal driver on call.
Will my pinned driver always take my ride?
Not necessarily โ€” and we want to be straight with you about that. Pinning gives your driver the first look at every job you post, but it doesn't obligate them to accept it. They might already be on a fare, off-shift, or unavailable for any number of reasons. If they pass or don't respond within about ten minutes, your job opens up to other drivers and gets picked up the same way an unpinned ride would. So you're never stuck โ€” but a pinned driver isn't a guaranteed pickup either.
Can I pin a driver I invited to Giv'er?
Yes โ€” that's the whole point. The driver you bring on shows up in your list of drivers the moment they're approved. Tap their profile and choose "Pin as my driver." From your next ride on, they get the first look.
What does my driver need to sign up?
A valid NS Class 4 driver's licence (any current cab driver already has this), proof of insurance for the vehicle they'll drive, and a smartphone. Sign-up takes about two minutes. Verification typically completes within a business day.
Does my driver have to leave their current cab company?
No. Most Giv'er drivers keep their existing arrangement and use Giv'er between dispatch calls. It's additive โ€” never a replacement.
How do I pin my driver once they sign up?
Once they're verified, you'll see a "Pin as my driver" option on their profile in the app. Tap it. From then on every job you post goes to them first.
Can I pin more than one driver?
Right now, one pinned driver at a time. If you want to switch (different shift, different driver, life changes), just un-pin and pin someone else. Takes one tap.
What if my driver doesn't have a smartphone or doesn't want to learn an app?
Honest answer: Giv'er won't work for them, and that's OK. Plenty of cab drivers prefer the old phone system. This is for drivers who are open to a second channel.
